On May 28, 2016, NAMOC "Activation of Classic Collections" Series Exhibition: Painting Stories-NAMOC Collected Serial Pictures Original Works Exhibition opened at the fifth floor exhibition half of the National Art Museum of China (NAMOC). Sponsored by NAMOC, the exhibition was a part of the series exhibitions of NAMOC activation of classic collections for showing the general picture of the development of Chinese picture-story books since the 1920s, in the form of collected works.
NAMOC curator Wu Weishan said that NAMOC collected great many original picture-story books. In response to the speech of General Secretary Xi Jinping at the forum on literature and art work, and further promoting the implementation of the NAMOC “activation of classic collections” project, the museum selected some quality picture-story books from its collections to exhibit the development path and artistic achievements of Chinese picture-story books in the 20th century. Wu said that he hoped the classic works that touched the heart of the public would enable audiences to go over the memory of their growth and console their heart while displaying their artistic charms.

The exhibited works were masterpieces familiar to the general public. Most of the works were familiar names that won prizes in previous national fine art exhibitions and picture-story book awards, or were distributed in great volumes.
