Collections donated by the Ludwigs from NAMOC are unveiled

An exhibition is on display at the museum to showcase collections donated by the Ludwigs from NAMOC. Professor Peter Ludwig and his wife Ireina Ludwig are famous German collectors and artistic historians. In 1996, they donated a total of 117 pieces of international artworks with 89 artworks to the National Art Museum of China, including a number of artworks by foreign artists including Picasso.

The couple was dedicated to the collection and the research of the artworks. Their devotion to some extent reflects overall development and the outlook of the world art. Since 1957, the couple constantly donated or borrowed their donation to the museums across the globe and founded the museums and artistic funds after the name of the Ludwig.

The Ludwigs initialed a donation agreement at the National Art Museum of China in 1996. The couple decided to donate a total of 89 items (namely 117 pieces of artworks created by 82 European and American artists since the 1970s, such as Pabol Picasso, Andy Warhol and Daniel Richter. It was the first time that China collected such a large number of western artworks.

In order to give into full play the instructive and publicity role of the donations, the National Art Museum of China has held tour exhibitions of the donations several times across the countries such as Chengdu, Guangzhou, Wuhan and Nanjing.

The exhibition opens at Hall 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17.
