Beijing National Stadium, the Bird’s Nest, will welcome a new neighbor – new National Art Museum of China.

Nouvel, famous French architect and designer, mentioned that the inspiration of the design of the new museum originated from the Chinese calligraphy in the forum held in Shanghai last year.

In his opinion, the capitalized character “Yi” is not only the most simple and direct symbol of the Chinese characters but also the first stroke of writing and drawing. The traditional Chinese calligraphy embodying the character and the art, brings about strong cultural identity. The design plan boasts the meaning of “the moment and the eternity”.

The new museum is expected to get close to the Chinese calligraphy and the artistic conception of the watercolor paintings through adopting stones, glasses and a number of new materials.

The bidding ceremony of the design plan of the new museum was held on Oct. 18 in Paris, France. Jean Nouvel Firm from France and Beijing Institute of Architectural Design jointly won the bid out of a total of 155 participants, who took part in the bid in 2012.
