Zhang Wei shows his dazzling unusual ink paintings

An artistic exhibition called “Dazzling image” is currently on display at the museum to showcase ink paintings by Zhang Wei. 

Born in Haian, Jiangsu province, Zhang Wei was graduated from the Art Department of Nantong Normal College in 1994 and completed the study at the postgraduate class of Nanjing Arts Academy in 2002. And then he achieved postgraduate’s degree from Suzhou University in 2008. He is now member of the Chinese Artists’ Association, honorary artist of Jiangsu Traditional Chinese Painting Academy and vice president of Nantong Calligraphic and Traditional Chinese Painting Research Academy.

Zhang Wei is among the ink painters born in the 1970s greatly influenced by new literati painting trends. The artist is always overturning the existing ink paintings with his teasing attitude. His ink paintings boast mysterious image with witchcraft masks and ceremonial actions.

It is the magician of the image that is always psychological appeal of the artist to change everyday visual experience. Different from the humor and elegance of the new paintings of man-of-letters, his artworks is an attempt to change the ink principle of the traditional image. The artist adopts alternative ink language in an attempt to change the traditional image.

The exhibition opens at Hall 5 since Dec. 4 until Dec. 15.
