Shanghai Art Exhibition reflects the innovative and responsible local art

An exhibition of the Shanghai art is currently on display at the museum to showcase a total of 102 pieces of excellent artworks covering a great variety of categories, such as the traditional Chinese painting, the oil painting, the engraved painting and the sculpture.

The Shanghai painting school is an important part of the modern Chinese painting. Since the Ming and the Qing dynasties, the Shanghai painting school gradually thrived and artistic masters came forth in large numbers, such as Xu Gu, Re Bonian, Wu Changshuo, Liu Haisu, Lin Fengmian and Feng Zikai. The Shanghai art flourished with a diverse and new look, carrying on the tradition of the Shanghai school and presenting metropolitan awareness.

The exhibition, based on the artworks by the contemporary artists, comprises a total of three parts. The first past includes masterpieces by contemporary local artists, such as Chen Peiqiu, Fang Zengxian, Xu Changming, Shi Dawei, and Lu Fusheng. The second part displays a number of award-winning artworks at the national artistic exhibition and Shanghai artistic exhibition since the reform and opening up. The last part showcases excellent artworks by middle-aged and young artists.  

The show is intended to reflect the innovative style with strong features of the Shanghai art and also its light, fashionable and modern artistic style. The exhibition attaches great importance to humanistic concerns and social responsibility of the artists.

The exhibition opens at Hall 13.14.15, 16 and 17 until Nov. 19, 2013.
