Sponsored by the National Art Museum of China and Centre Pasqu’Art, Biel in Switzerland, a media art exhibition entitled “Time lapse” at Hall 19, 20 and 21. The artists from the two countries present new media masterpieces and challenges for imagination of the audience through the medium of such unexpected materials as video, computer hard discs and sound effect amplifiers.

“Time lapse”, a kind of special photographic effect, refers to the extension of the intervals between pictures. The process will play at last every 24 seconds and features a kind of man-made slow effect after acceleration. Curator Zhang Ga said, the quotation of this word in this exhibition attempts to examine the basic composition of the digital media, the concept of time and its representation in space through participation of scores of artists from Switzerland and China.

The exhibition is one of the exchange and cooperation project sponsored by the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia as well as the project in 2009 of “Media China” of the National Art Museum of China. The program is hoped to promote the friendly relation of the cultures and establish a long-term exchange for the artists and the organizations between both countries.

Fan Di’an, Director of the National Art Museum of China, said, the exhibition is another in-depth exploration in the field of new media and the art of new media will bring about unlimited possibility to the artistic development.

The exhibition will be on display until December 19 and tour to Swiss Biel in March 2010.
