Works exhibition of the artistic creation project on the national major historical subjects is on display

Sponsored by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Finance, works exhibition of the artistic creation project on the national major historical subjects is currently on display at almost all the halls of the National Art Museum of China, including Hall 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 19, 20, 21. It comprises a total of 102 artworks, including 33 traditional Chinese paintings, 51 oil paintings and 18 sculptures. It is open to the public from Sept. 23 to Oct. 20.

The exhibition is an important part of a series of cultural events of “reporting to the motherland- celebrating the 60th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China”. Meanwhile, some academic seminars will be held along with a series of activities concerning public education and publicity promotion.

The function reveals the major historical events as its main themes, such as the anti-imperialism, anti-feudalism and anti-colonialism struggle and the socialist revolution and construction. The experts from the Party History Research Centre of the CPC Central Committee and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences determined the themes, which were then issued with the approval of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee and the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee. It is the first time in the history of New China that the capital in such a large scale has been put into the thematic artistic creation reaching 100 million RMB.

The experts from the artistic committee, as the authorities in the contemporary artistic circle, encourage ideological and artistic excellent creation and make continuous appraisal on artists and artworks by abiding by the righteous and strict attitudes as well as the artistic standard. Their scientific evaluation method and efficient mechanism has provided the forceful artistic and academic support for the creation.

All the exhibits are fine works under strict accreditation by the artistic committee of the artistic creation project on the national major historical subjects as the result of greatest efforts by numerous artists heart and soul and also a representation of the optimum level of the current thematic artistic creation. Included are Jin Shangyi, Zhan Jianjun, Quan Shanshi, Wu Shanming, Liu Guohui, Liang Mingcheng, Song Huimin, Cao Chunsheng, Feng Yuan, Liu Dawei, Yang Lizhou, Wang Mingming, Long Rui, Xu Jiang, Shi Dawei, Chen Jian, Zeng Chenggang, Cheng Conglin, Chen Yiming, Yang Feiyun, Yuan Wu, Tang Yongli, Sun Jiabo, Sun Tao and Chen Ke. The artists of different generations have devoted themselves to creation with strong responsibility  and focused the thought of cultural mission and the pursuit of the spiritual characters on the retrospection of historical spirit and creation techniques. A number of masterpieces reflect the magnificent artistic roll of the Chinese modern and contemporary history, such as Zhan Tianyou builds Jing-Zhang Railway, Sailing-the first conference of the CPC Central Committee, Jianggangshan revolution struggle.

Organized by the nation, on the one hand, the project has established the value standard and the character pursuit of the contemporary artistic creation on the basis of the strict artistic standard and the profound thought connotation and attached great importance to the history and the reality. On the other hand, the exhibition intends to praise the great national spirit of the great people in the process of fighting for national liberation and social progress with the core of the patriotism. It is the project that has given the function of art into full play in the fields of the patriotism and the revolutionary education as a great spiritual and materialistic legacy.

The exhibition in particular establishes a hall for documents through quite a large number of drafts, notes, photos and video clips in a bid to reveal the whole process of the project implementation. The exhibition, open to the public for free, will continue to tour in Shanghai, Hangzhou, Xiamen and Wuhan in order to bring their social benefits into full play and make more audience to appreciate such fine works.
