Sponsored by the National Art Museum of China, a painting exhibition about Huang Junbi is currently on display at Hall 1 from August 9 to August 16, 2009.

Huang Junbi (1898-1991), a celebrated artist, is a participant and a witness of the historical changes of the traditional Chinese painting in the past century. He is regarded as a very indispensable and important artist and educator in the history of the Chinese art in the 20th century. It is the rich experience that achieved his unique artistic style, for instance, the fluctuation and the revitalization of the nation, the conflicts and the combination between the systems of cultural relics from China and the Western world and the change and the infusion of the old and new times.

Huang Junbi enjoyed equal fame with Xu Beihong and Zhang Daqian and had good friendship with them. The three artists are of great influence to the orientation of the modern Chinese painting art. As an opportunity to know this important artist across the Strait for the Beijing audience, the exhibition provides vital research materials on the development of the traditional Chinese painting in the 20th century.

The exhibition comprises a loan of 80 masterpieces in four different periods. He learnt from the artworks by the previous masters and broke away from the confinement from the reality. Since settled in Taiwan, he made combination between the traditional ink and the Taiwan landscape.

As an art educator, Huang Junbi explored a new space for the ink painting education and made a great contribution to its development in Taiwan.

The exhibition is a promoter of the cultural exchange across the Strait. And international academic seminars and lectures will further the research on various aspects, such as the artistic achievements of the master, the development of the traditional Chinese painting across the Strait and the future innovative path.
