Sponsored by Chinese Artists Association, Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, Guangdong Provincial Artists Association, Chen Jinzhang has held a personal painting exhibition at Hall from July 29 to August 6, 2009.

Chen Jinzhang learned the traditional Chinese painting from Gao Jianfu, Li Xiongcai and Guan Shanyue at Guangzhou municipal professional artistic school. Since 1956, he has been a teacher at Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, then deputy director of the traditional Chinese painting Department. He is also director of Memorial Museum of the Lingnan Paintings School and an executive member of Guangdong Provincial Artists Association.

Chen Jinzhang boasts an important position in the current painting circle of Lingnan area. Under the circumstance of highlighting the political theme in the art during the mid 20th century, he is one of the earliest artists who realized the characteristics and the charm of the traditional Chinese painting. His masterpieces reflect his understanding to the traditional Chinese painting, such as “Dawn” in 1958, “Fascinated autumn in Zhushachong” in 1963. In the past decades, the artist has not only gained a number of materials but also improved the capability in ink. In terms of the creation concept, he has inherited the tradition of concerning the social reality and attached great importance to the grass-root experience for creation passion and inspiration.
