Chao Mei holds a retrospective exhibition

An retrospective exhibition about Chao Mei is currently on display at Hall 19, 20 and 21, which consists of three parts, namely, printmaking works; color-ink calligraphic works, paints from nature, sketches, drafts and publications; and pictures and videos. All the exhibits provide an overall review of his remarkable achievements in the past six decades.

Born in North China’s Shandong province in 1931, Chao Mei is a celebrated representative and pioneer of the printmaking art of the Great Northern Wilderness school. He was devoted to the work in the literary and artistic fields and the cultivation of the local land in the army for a long time. He was vice chairman of the Chinese Printmaking Association and Chairman of the Heilongjiang Provincial Fine Arts Association. The artist won various awards in the national exhibitions, of whom more than 200 works have been collected by the museums and galleries at home and abroad. 

The year of 2009 marks the 60th anniversary of his artistic career. Co-sponsored by China Federation of Literary and Arts Circles, China Fine Arts Association, the National Art Museum of China, the Publicity Department of the Heilongjiang Provincial Communist Party Committee and Heilongjiang Federation of Literary and Arts Circles, the exhibition will last until May 8.
