Looking Back 600 Years -- Special Painting Exhibition from Four Great Artists of Ming Dynasty to the Contemporary Wu School

Suzhou is a historical and cultural ancient city with profound deposits. Since the Ming and Qing dynasties, there appeared the Wu School and Loudong School in the city, headed by the four great artists of the Ming Dynasty. During the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China periods, Suzhou painters founded associations or went abroad to open up a new way for the modern Wu School, under the guide of representative Suzhou artists Wu Hufan, Yan Wenliang, Pang Xunqin, Wu Zuoren and Song Wenzhi. After the founding of New China in 1949, Suzhou painters FeiXinwo, Zhang Xinjia and Wu Yangmu, found their way to distinction in the new environment. At present, Zhang Jixin, Hang Mingshi, and Sun Junliang have become the backbone of contemporary painting in Suzhou.
There are 164 works on display in this special exhibition including 71 pieces in 29 sets of works of Ming and Qing dynasty. Some of the masterpieces will be displayed to the audience including works of the Four Great Artists of Ming Dynasty, Wang Shimin, Wang Jian, Wang Hui and Wang Yuanqiof the early Qing Dynasty, Dong Qichang and Chen Chun. There are also 18 pieces of modern works and 75 pieces of contemporary works. As the most important fine arts exhibition in Beijing in Suzhou history, this exhibition shows the masterpieces of Suzhou art since the Ming and Qing Dynasties and let the audience feel the vitality of Suzhou art.
