Liu Canming now works as a member of the Central Committee of NLD and Teaching Guiding Committee for Fine Arts Majors under the Ministry of Education and the China Calligraphers’ Association for “regular script”. One of the Jiangsu Province CPPCC and Jiangsu Literary Federation members and one of the Young and Middle-aged representative calligraphers, he is also the executive vice president and professor of Chinese National Academy of Calligraphy of Southeast University. The art works created by Liu Canming won a National Award at the 5th National Exhibition of Calligraphy and Seal Cutting, the highest award at this exhibition. He also won 3rd place in the 3rd Exhibition of Young and Middle-aged Calligrapher and Engraver. The exhibition displays more than 70 pieces of works created by Liu Canming in recent years.His works are based on regular scripts,cursive scripts and semi-cursive scripts,and most of his work is about sutra.He follows the example of Dunhuang sutras and learns from contemporary calligraphic literature resources and traditional calligraphy,then develops the style into two distinct styles :the first being free and gentle,and the second being primitive and simple.He also gives Dunhuang sutra a new appearance in contemporary arts and contributes to the development of contemporary calligraphy in an all-round way as a result of his self-learning, style-fixing and persistence in copying sutras in the long-term.
