The exhibition will display Mr. Hu Shanyu’s over 200 pieces of works, articles and document, completely present the artistic career of Hu Shanyu and provide a comprehensive, full and accurate arts archive for study of modern and contemporary China oil painting so as to summarize the significance of Mr. Hu Shanyu to development of Chinese oil painting.
Hu Shanyu is very diligent and hardworking all his life. He takes sketching from nature as means and nature as object, integrates European impressionism painting techniques in modern painting with implication of Chinese culture and does great contribution to oil painting nationalization. His oil painting language is natural, plain, reserved and with lingering charm. With color strongly contrasted or steady and elegant, Hu Shanyu reflects his sincere emotion to nature in his painting and realizes aesthetic pursuit of “thought going with object”. In1985, Hu Shanyu donated 18 pieces of representative works at various periods of time to NAMOC and during this exhibition, Hu Lianyi, daughter of Hu Shanyu will donate 10 pieces of his father’s work to NAMOC. Hu Shanyu’s 28 pieces of oil paintings become part of collection of national art treasury during 30 years through effort of two generations of Hu family, which will be a deed praised far and wide in art history of China. Hu Shanyu’s selfless character, together with his art, will go down in history forever and be paid respect to by the successors.
