Zhao Hongfu, was born in Zhenping County, Nanyang, Henan Province in 1935. He is a Member of the China Watercolor Painting Council and Henan Artists Association, President of Zhengzhou Watercolor Painting Research Society and Associate Professor of Architecture at Zhengzhou University.
This exhibition which spans over 50 years, shows Mr. Zhao’s prolific exploration of landscape watercolor painting. The 40 works on display originate from the Orient and are rooted in the concept of “homeland”, transporting viewers on a poetic and ethereal journey through time and place.
Zhao Hongfu stresses that the creation and process of watercolor painting is an “Underwater Operation”. Using water as his medium, he can adapt to unique circumstances that arise. Diverting a favorable turn of events to his advantage, he has mastered the application and order of color and water with its withering dampness, quickness and slowness. His technique seizes fleeting opportunities by capturing traces of various shapes and colors to create an artistic feeling which arouse both the heart and soul.
Talent, skill and elegant thought give surprising vitality to the world created by Mr. Zhao. His “oriental world art” is hailed as visual lyrical poetry, establishing him as the celebrated “Poet of Landscape”.
