Heilongjiang engraving is based on the aesthetic foundation of new woodcut popularization activity lunched by Art workers from liberated areas like Yan’an who had come to Northeast China in 1946 and the great northern wilderness engraving school born in the developing and construction of the Great Northern Wilderness in 1958. Tested and quenched by time since the opening of China, there gradually appeared regional engraving schools who had gained growing influence both domestically and abroad. The unique natural environment and humanity ecology nourished the creation of Heilongjiang regional engraving and also made Heilongjiang engraving present morphological features and cultural characters different from other regions.

This special exhibition is a large art exhibition that held by provincial people’s government for the first time in Heilongjiang province and reflects Heilongjiang regional cultural view. The exhibition will present about 190 classical engraving works created at different periods, praising the magnificent nature with unique words, eulogizing the brave workers and confiding the great beauty and great love between nature and humanity. We hope that through this exhibition we can transfer Heilongjiang regional civilization and art achievement making visitors appreciate natural beauty of Heilongjiang, feeling the charm of Heilongjiang culture as well as the great achievements and evident changes of economy and society.
