Shang Tao, a painter of birds and flowers, was born in Beijing in 1938 and graduated from the Institute of Chinese Paintings, Chinese Central academy of Fine arts. He is member of Chinese Artists Association, national level artist, painter of Guangdong Painting Academy, external professor and instructor of calligraphy and engraving of the postgraduate of Guangdong Painting Academy, executive director of Guangdong Artists Association, member of Chinese Painting Arts Committee, honorary member of Provincial Calligraphers Association, member of Guangdong Literature and History Institute, Provincial Committee Member, enjoying the government special subsidy that State Depart. He has also been awarded as one of the top ten Painters of Guangdong Province.

His works has been selected to be presented in the 6th , 7th , 8th , 9th and 10th National Art Exhibition, the 1st and 2nd Biennial National Arts Gallery and the 1st , 2nd  and 3rd  National Chinese Painting Exhibition, and has been awarded the highest award in the 8th National Fine Arts Exhibition of excellent works, bronze award of the 9th National Fine Arts Exhibition, the highest academic award of the 2nd Biennial National Arts Gallery and bronze award of the 1st Chinese National Paintings Exhibition. The painting work Midsummer got gold award in the exhibition of "The Gathering of World Culture" in Algeria, and the painting work of Beauty of the Country got gold award in the "Exhibition of Sino-Japanese Painting ". His works are collected by the Chinese State Council, China Art Gallery and Australian Museum. The painting work of Amplifier was named "the classic 50 works for 50 years of Guangdong Artists Association", and the painting work of exuberant was selected in the national "Chinese Century Paintings exhibition".
