Sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and other 9 ministries, the First China’s Cartoon & Animation Artistic Exhibition will be held from Oct. 26 to Nov. 18 in Beijing. As a debut of the national level, the exhibition boasts high professionalism and comprehensiveness across the country. The show will become a new milestone in the development process of the country’s cartoon and animation art and the relevant industry.

The exhibition is organized by ten ministries and organizations, namely, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Ministry of Commerce, State Administration of Taxation, State Administration for Industry and Commerce, State Administration of Radio Film and Television and General Administration of Press and Publication. 

The exhibition will be unveiled at the National Art Museum of China at 3 p.m. on Oct. 26, 2009. The show has made a history in the field of cartoon and animation. For example, the first exhibition of this kind is displayed in the national artistic museums as integrity. Included are a number of the scripts, manuscripts and pictures with ideological content, artistic appeal and aesthetic charm in the past 6 decades as well as a few excellent works before New China establishment. Besides those created in the new period (most of them are created by computer), the exhibition is focused on the original scripts, a few precious works of which are replaced by high-emulation replica restored by CG technique. As an important part of the art, the excellent works from Hong Kong, Maocau and Taiwan are also on display reflecting equal attention to and concern with the products. The show also covers a wide range of categories in the field of animation and cartoon, including animation films, animation TV series, ironic cartoons, comic books, cartoons of the new period, mobile cartoons, internet cartoon and other new media cartoon. The show demonstrates that the art of cartoon and animation art has developed along with the time.

The exhibition is displayed on the third and the fifth floors respectively. The former section provides a review of the classics as the theme along with a number of precious collections from public organizations and private treasures representing various schools of the country’s animation and cartoon. Most of the works are masterpieces by influential artists including Feng Zikai, Wan Laiming, Zhang Leping, Zhang Guangyu, Ding Cong, A Da, Hua Junwu, Te Wei, Fang Cheng and Chen Yifei. The fifth floor displays recent works by new talents especially well-known original images, such as “Happy Sheep and Grey Wolf”, “Romance of the Three Kingdoms” and “Messy Temple” and “Mc Dull” from Taiwan and Hong Kong. 

The First China’s Cartoon & Animation Artistic Exhibition has caused wide reaction in the circle of animation and cartoon. The experts say, under the circumstance of the rapid development of the comic and cartoon industry, excellent original products have been going deep into the spiritual and cultural life of the people. To hold such an exhibition is the objective requirement of the development of the cartoon and animation industry. In light of the uneven level of the relevant functions in the country, the exhibition is a reflection of the current situation of the industry as an authoritative and professional show. The exhibition is hoped to establish a benchmark for a high-level, comprehensive and professional exposition in this field and change the trend of homogenization of various events. It is of far-reaching influence to promote the prosperity and development of the original cartoon and animation art.
