Share the Peripateticism —— the Calligraphy Exhibition by Wang Dongling is to be opened in the ,of No. 1 and No. 8 of National Art Museum of China, on Dec. 3rd of 2007. This is the third personal exhibition of Wang Dongling held in NAMC. The exhibition is held from Dec. 3rd to 9th. The hosting units are Publicity Department of Zhejiang Province Party Committee, National Art Museum of China, China Calligraphers Association, Federation of literary and Art Circles of Zhejiang Province, Chinese Academy of Fine Arts. Xu Jiang is the majordomo, Fan Di’an is the meeting president and Gao Shiming is the curator.

There are 2 of distinctive characteristics in this exhibition. One is writing the great classical texts such as Book of Changes, the Analects of Confucius, Laozi, Zhuangzi, and Platform Sutra, with complete sincerity of calligraphy, and writing Book of Songs, Li Sao, poetry of Tang and Song Dynasties, and even the Current Pop Songs with romantic feelings. The other one is to expressing the great spirits of Chinese traditional calligraphic by modern art ideal, with great specialty art and modernity from creating and mounting the works to designing the whole exhibition hall. Especially the more than 50 meters long volume of the Book of Changes with more than 20 thousand characters and Laozi with more than 5 thousand characters, which is full of the wall in the circle ,of NAMC with a proportion of 4.95 meters high and 37.5 meters long. There is no more cursive hand works with so many characters than before.

Wang Dongling is a modern artist with the true qualities of calligrapher. He pays more attention on the beauty of fresh and the theory power of times than the brush and ink themselves. His huge and beyond the limit cursive hand writings is based on the soul of tradition, and is the expressions of the transmission to the modern of the calligraphic arts with the admiring power, the absorption of the perfect ideals and writings, and the spirit world after the perfect expression of the writings.

So Share the Peripateticism -- the Calligraphy Exhibition by Wang Dongling has active modern meanings. One of the meanings is the spirit of modern freedom exposed by the feelings of peripateticism, and another one of the meanings is share the peripateticism with the public. So the art of Wang Dongling is contributed to clear up the contradictions between the tradition and modern, by build a bridge from the traditional art to the modern art.
