  • Venues: Conde Duque, Madrid, Spain
This year is the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Spain. A series of cultural exchange activities have been held in both China and Spain. The exhibition “ From Picasso to Barceló——Spanish Sculpture of the 20th Century” is currently being held at National Art Museum of China and is favored by Chinese audiences. As a return, the National Art Museum of China elaborates “A New Era—Contemporary Chinese Art Exhibition” to introduce the brilliant Chinese contemporary art to the Spanish people.
As the only national art museum in China and an important window of China’s foreign art exchange, the National Art Museum of China has over 100 thousand pieces of various collections of Chinese art since the 20th century. Apart from displaying Chinese modern to contemporary art, it also exchanges with world renowned museums to boost the development of local art in the context of globalization and enhance dialogues between different countries.
Since the 1980s, China has entered a new era of reform and opening up which also uncovered a new page for Chinese art. Social exchange and progress provide new content for artistic creation and the Chinese contemporary art presents a scene of enrichment and colors in both concept and presentation.“ A New Era—Contemporary Chinese Art Exhibition” mainly selects artworks from collections of National Art Museum of China, including 60 pieces of representative works of Chinese paintings, oil paintings, sculptures and photography works in more than 30 years since the reform and opening up. Although the exhibition may not cover the whole development of Chinese contemporary art, it embodies the change of times and the innovation of art in the past 30 years. This is the first time that National Art Museum of China displays collections in Madrid of Spain. We believe this exhibition will enable the Spanish people to comprehend the progress of development and the diverse presence of contemporary Chinese art and furthermore experience the vitality of contemporary Chinese society.
