Introduction to the work:
To follow the road of realism in creation is Cai Liang's principle. Cai Liang was born in Xiamen, Fujian in 1932 and died in 1995. He entered Beijing Fine Arts Academy in 1949, and graduated from the Postgraduate Class of Central Academy of Fine Art in 1955. He went to Shanxi for fine art creation after study oil painting for six years. He also went to Shanxi to experience rural life, and the happiness, anger, sadness, and joy of farmers. He was toughed by actively taking part in the revolution under such hard circumstances. He created many picture stories, historical and revolutionary pictures. This picture described two young men caught up the red army to join the army after a long trip. The painter used upward composition to portray the two poor peasants' son from the back. They have little luggage with them, and in shabby clothes. Though he did not portray the facial expression of the two children, but their strong feet show their persistence, and they are asking permission from the general with their face up. They can judge that the elder man is the captain, but dramatically, they do not know that he was Mao Zedong. This is a relaxing plot under this serious theme, which is the punch line of the picture. Green-gray color dominates the whole picture, and leads us to the brilliant history.
