The Fish in the Black Lacquer Plate

Author: Cheng Xiangjun

The age of creation: 1994

Specifications: 45×45cm

Material quality: Lacquer

Introduction to the work:
Cheng Xiangjun was good at applying the language of painting to give the texture advantage of lacquer painting into full play. Because he was well grounded in oil painting, his works often had the flavor of oil painting. "The fish in the Black Lacquer Plate" has the flavor of classic oil painting. However, he did not neglect to explore the artistic language of lacquer painting. He has been constantly pursuing this language in the past ten odd years, trying to get the artistic essence of lacquer painting by simplifying the complex and redundant creation procedures and materials.

Cheng Xiangjun was born in Shenyang, Liaoning province in 1961. Majoring in lacquer painting, he graduated from the Decorative Art Department of China Central Arts &Crafts Institute in 1986, and taught there thereafter.
