Introduction to the work:
Because of historical reasons, Liao Bingxiong was forced to drop his pen for 20 years. "Laughing at Myself" was created on his retrospect of those 20 years. He took himself as an example to warn others in that great work. At that time, he was like being put into earthenware, and the earthenware was finally broken after the fall down the "Gang of Four", but he only discovered himself to be a freak with his hands and feet tied up. With confusion and gloomy in his eyes, a man who was forged that way by history appears before our eyes vividly. His personality was depressed, and his talents were exploited. The artist used this way to condemn the "Gang of Four" and laughed at himself for his stubbornness. Actually, the artist had already liberated his mind, but he wanted to use the self-satirical way to awaken those who had not. Therefore, it is clear that his pen was still sharp and powerful even when he was in his seventies. The only thing changed is that his artistic language became more vigorous and forceful.
Liao Bingxiong was born in1915, in Guangzhou. He was named Dongsheng originally.
