Introduction to the work:
Ever since the 1950s, various kinds of conflicts among people and unhealthy social practices had been cropping up. The satirical arts came into being as times require. This cartoon sneers at those people who injure the public interests for their own benefits. In this picture, a civil servant is polishing his pen with curtains of the public. The artist brings to life a selfish, and apathetic figure with only a few strokes.

Li Binsheng, cartoonist, was born in Benxi, Liaoning in 1925. He graduated from North China University in 1949, and then engaged in cartoon creation in Beijing Fine Arts Studio. Subsequently, he became a senior editor of Beijng Daily. He was attentive to those trifles happened in peopl's daily life. He could see things of importance from trifles, and something with depth from some shallow phenomenon, therefore, many social conflicts were revealed in his work. The style of his cartoon was concise and vivid. Smoothly drew, his cartoons were humorous and reserved, bitterly satirical yet do not lack kindness. He won the top prize for cartoonists in China--the "Golden Monkey Prize"
