Introduction to the work:
Lu Shaofei was born in a folk artist's family in Shanghai in 1903. He studied in Shanghai Artistic Training School in his early life. In the 1930s, he founded a Cartoon Society with Ding Chu, Zhang Guangyu, and Ye Qianyu in Shanghai, and edited "Cartoons", which published cartoons to criticize the society. In 1936, he took part in the preparation of the First National Cartoon Exhibition, and took charge of the foundation of the Cartoonists' Association in China. Starting from 1937, he worked as the chief editor for "National Salvation Cartoon" magazine. He was among the earliest cartoon activists. He had worked in People's Fine Arts Publishing House from 1950s.

"The Life of a Foreign Woman" was based on the artist's feeling when he worked for Xinjiang Daily. It displays the life of Russian women living in Xinjiang Autonomous Region. He used 5 consecutive pictures to depict their life--working with all their might and enjoying life to their hearts' content after work. Realistically created, it reveals the artists' sympathy towards them. Lu was regarded as an expert on representing people's living condition with cartoons. He combined the techniques of Chinese painting and watercolor painting in his work.
