Author: Jin Shangyi

The age of creation: 1980

Specifications: 80×60cm

Material quality: oil on canvas

Introduction to the work:
Jin Shangyi was born in 1934, a native of Jiaozuo, Henan. He graduated from Maximov Oil Painting Training Class of the academy in 1957. He currently holds the posts of professor of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Chairman of China Artists Association, and vice Chairman of China Oil Painting Institute.

In his early years, he mainly focused on painting on the theme of revolutionary and historical events, such as The Meeting in December, etc. He began to absorb the classic painting style of Europe in the early 1980, and engaged in figure portrait. This work was created after he went to Yongle Palace, and Dunhuang. The plane decorative effect of ancient wall picture made some influence on him. The handling of light highlights the body against the dark background. The picture is smooth on the surface, the figure is plump, and the color is pure, with some changes between cold and warm, which highlights the elegance and serenity of the character. This picture represents his style on figure painting.
