台湾美术馆

    位于台中市六号公园内的台湾美术馆,前身为成立于1988年的台湾省立美术馆。美术馆与台中市立文化中心和自然科学博物馆比邻,形成台中市极具人文气息的文化地带。

    台湾美术馆为地上三层、地下一层,呈东西长条型之建筑体,总楼地板面积约38,000平方米,包括展览室18间(展览面积约5,000平方公尺)以及长约280米的美术街,外部有近100,000平方米的美术公园,为台湾最大的美术馆。除了一般的展示空间外,美术馆还设有教师资源室、儿童游戏室、设备完善的演讲厅、餐厅、咖啡厅、美术馆商店、资料中心、书店等,积极营造二十一世纪美术馆兼具知性与休闲功能的崭新面貌。

    美术馆是以充实台湾美术、提升人文品质、推进台湾美术文化定位为导向的美术馆,以此按年规划各类型美术专题研究展及学术研讨会,同时推出多项文化交流展览,并积极参与国际和地区的双年展及举办竞赛展览,以期能增进外部世界对台湾艺术的兴趣与了解。近年来执行“数字艺术创作计划”项目,规划艺术与科技结合的数位艺术大展,促进创意与艺术产业之结合,深受瞩目。

    美术馆以近、现代及当代美术作品作有系统的典藏,收藏对象上溯明清时期、下迄当代杰出美术家作品,尤以日治时期之后的台湾艺术作品最具代表性,这些富含各时代精神的作品,使得美术馆得以完整的推介台湾的各类传统及艺术的创意表现;近年来并辅以收藏与作者相关的文献资料,成为研究台湾美术史的重要资源。

    美术馆对观众服务的重点,已从提供对艺术作品的膜拜与享乐,转换到沟通、诠释、分享与学习上,这也是美术馆二十世纪后半叶以来普遍的共识。其教育推广的目的,在于满足学校、亲子、家庭观众、专业与非专业、个人与团体,或任何年龄的休闲者、学习者、参与者各种不同的需求,为社会大众做更多元的服务。馆内的资料中心以搜集美术图书、期刊及艺术家资料为主,是研究台湾美术的重要资源中心。美术馆定期举办演讲及各种形式的艺术活动,并出版展览专辑、《台湾美术》学术季刊、《台湾美术评论全集》、《美术论文集》等。



Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts

Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts is located in the Sixth Park of Taichung. Its previous existence is the Taiwan Provincial Arts Museum that was established in December 1988. The Museum, with the Taichung Municipal Cultural Center and the Natural Science Museum as its neighbors, creates a cultural area of humanistic atmosphere in Taipei city.

Covering an area of about 38,000 square meters of floor space, Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts is housed in an oblong building with three floors above ground level and one floor below ground level. The museum is the largest art museum in Taiwan. Its interior consists of 18 exhibition rooms with over 5,000 square meters of gallery space and a Gallery Street about 280-metre long. The outdoor art part occupies an area of 100,000 square meters. Besides ordinary display space, the museum has a range of amenities including a teacher’s resource room, a family room, a well equipped auditorium, a Chinese restaurant, a café, a museum shop, an art library, a bookstore, and so on. It is both a place for learning and recreation, exactly how a 21st century fine arts museum should be.

The museum is dedicated to promoting Taiwan’s status in fine arts community and conducing art research. There are thematic researches and academic seminars organized yearly as well as a wide range of cultural events in conjunction with overseas institutions including international biennial exhibitions and art contests to promote and share Taiwanese art with the art community in the world and the region. The museum also undertakes the Cultural Affair’s Digital Arts Project. Under this project the museum has organized and will continuously participate in those international digital art exhibitions to foster the development of the creative art industry and encourage the combination of art and technology.

The museum holds the most comprehensive collections of Taiwanese art. Its collection, consisting of over 10,000 treasures, shows a diversity of works created over the past few centuries, from the Ming and Qing Dynasties to present-day. It also includes a full spectrum of modern and contemporary works of local artists, and is particularly noted for the collection of eastern gouache and oil paintings dated after the Japanese occupation. The scope and breadth of the collection enables the museum to provide an introduction to all the major traditions and artistic intelligence of Taiwanese art and culture. The museum’s collections and documented literature also serve as vital sources of information for the research of Taiwanese fine arts.

The museum not only serves as a place to appreciate and enjoy artworks, but also about the sharing, learning, communication and interpretation of art. It aims to meet the different needs of schools, families, professional groups and individuals, and general publics of all ages. The library of the museum collects varieties of materials and information as the references of research, such as the exhibition catalogues which published inside and outside of Taiwan, information and archives about the artists, and so on. It is now a vital resource center for the study of Taiwanese art history. The museum holds speeches and various artistic activities regularly. Among the museum’s publications are the academic journal Fine Arts in Taiwan, The Complete Collection of Fine Arts Review in Taiwan and A Collection of Fine Arts Essays.
