上海美术馆创建于1956年,于2000年迁入新址。新馆坐落于南京西路325号。经改建的新馆建筑面积18，000平方米，设12个展示厅，共计5，800余平方米，现有馆藏作品10，000余件，并配备了现代化的照明系统、中央空调、恒温恒湿、消防安保、垂直运输及自动化管理设施，为同时或分别举办各类艺术展览提供了良好的条件。上海美术馆还拥有可供国内外学术交流、艺术鉴赏的会议室、学术活动室、演讲厅、图书馆、多媒体阅览室、艺术家工作坊及美术资料室等，成为集收藏研究、陈列展览、审美教育、中外交流、休闲娱乐于一体的现代艺术博物馆。

    近年来上海美术馆与国内外美术机构建立了广泛的合作和交流的关系，加入了国际博物馆协会(The InternationalCouncilofMuseums)及国际现代美术馆委员会(CIMAM)，上海美术馆正日益成为上海标志性的公益文化设施和中外文化交流的重要窗口。

    作为一个现代造型艺术博物馆，上海美术馆始终注重通过收藏打造自己的个性形象。现有各类藏品10，000余幅，这些藏品以近现代中西美术的交汇点为背景，涵盖了20世纪中国美术发展进程各阶段的内容。其中，既有20世纪上半叶探索中西融合的海派绘画，又有为民族独立解放而呐喊具有启蒙主义思想的新兴版画，也有20世纪后半叶歌颂社会主义革命和建设的大型油画、中国画；还有20世纪90年代以来富有现代艺术特征的实验性作品；以及反映上海地区艺术特色的年画、连环画、宣传画和海外画家的部分捐赠作品。依托本馆收藏，积极以中国近现代美术史为重点的理论研究和美术馆学的研究，是该馆综合功能的主题和核心，也是开展收藏保管、陈列展览、教育推广、中外交流等业务工作的前提。特别是由该馆主办的上海双年展是上海美术馆最为重要的学术活动之一，已成为有一定国际影响的项目。

    上海美术馆的机构设置如下：馆长室、办公室、双年展办公室、学术部、典藏部、展览部、教育部、人事部、财务部、总务部、保安部、发展部及艺术品公司。全部工作人员180人：其中在编114人，编外劳务人员66人：研究与策展人员约16人。

Shanghai Art Museum

Shanghai Art Museum was founded in 1956 and moved to current site in 2000. The new building is located at No. 325, West Nanjing Road. After reconstruction, Shanghai Art Museum has a 18,000 square meters of floor space and possesses 12 exhibition halls summing up to 5800 sq.meters. At present, with more than 10000 collected works and modernized illumination system, central air-conditioning system, constant temperature and humidity system, fire-control and security system, vertical transportation and automatic management facilities, it make possible holding various art exhibitions meanwhile or respectively. Shanghai Art Museum also has conference room for academic exchange and art appreciation, room for academic activities, lecture hall, library, multi-media reading room, artists workshop and art archive etc., becomes a museum of modern art integrating the functions of collection and research, display and exhibition, aesthetic education, cultural exchange as well as recreation and amusement.

Especially, the Shanghai Biennale organized by our museum is the most successful and the most important academic activity of Shanghai Art Museum. In recent years, Shanghai Art Museum became a member of The International Council of Museums and CIMAM. It is becoming the symbolic public-good cultural place in Shanghai and the important window of culture exchanges between China and foreign countries.

As a modern museum of plastic arts, Shanghai Art Museum always focuses on collection to shape her unique image. Shanghai Art Museum possesses more than 10000 pieces of art works in different categories with the background of Chinese and western arts' fusion and integration, which cover the contents of each stage in Chinese art history s development in the 20th century.

The collection includes not only the paintings of Shanghai style to explore Chinese and western arts fusion and integration in the first half of the 20th century, newly developed woodcuts of Didacticism to support nation's independence and liberation, large-scale oil paintings and traditional Chinese paintings to eulogize Socialistic revolution and construction in the last half of the 20th century, experimental works of modern art characteristics from 1990 s, Spring Festival pictures, story book pictures and posters to reflect artistic features in Shanghai area, but also some works donated by artists from abroad. Depending on the museum s collection, being actively engaged in academic research concentrated on Chinese modern and contemporary art history and study of art museum s theories is the theme and central core among all of Shanghai Art Museum s comprehensive functions, meanwhile the premises of carrying out the work of collection and maintenance, display and exhibition, education and promotion, communication with foreign countries, and etc. Especially Shanghai Biennale is one of the most important academic activities held by Shanghai Art Museum, which has already become a regular event with international influence.

There are total 180 staffs in our museum, in which 114 staffs are within the personnel quota, 66 service workers are out of the quota, 16 staffs are researchers and curators.
