内蒙古美术馆建于1958年，当时隶属于内蒙古美术家协会。全馆建筑面积1,200平方米，展厅面积800平方米。1993年，在旧馆基础上，自治区政府投资重建了新的美术馆，并于1997年正式开放。新的美术馆面积4,600平方米，展厅面积1,800平方米，有378延长米的展线，能接纳中小型美术、书法、摄影等展览。新美术馆改由内蒙古文联领导，有正式工作人员15人。下设展览部、研究部、办公室、财务部等机构。

    1997年至2006年上半年，美术馆共接纳展览300余个，举办过蒙古国、丹麦、日本、瑞典、韩国等境外展览，以及第九届全国美展版画展、”西部辉煌”、全国中国画展览、第四届全国水彩画展等全国性展览。自1997年重建美术馆以来，收藏了约500件美术、书法等作品。

    到2006年，内蒙古美术馆已经走过了48年，它伴随着内蒙古文化历史发展，促进内蒙古的美术、书法、摄影事业的进步，弘扬内蒙古的民族文化，起到了不可替代的作用。

Inner Mongolia Art Museum

Inner Mongolia Art Museum, founded in 1958, was under the supervision of Inner Mongolia Artist Association. The museum, covering an area of 1,200 square meters, with 800 square meters of exhibition space, was a single-story gallery made of brick and stone by demolishing the original house. In 1993, due to the artists' appeal and with approval from The Autonomous Region,the new art museum was built with The investment from the government and opened to public in 1997.The new museum thus covers an area of 4,600 square meters with an exhibition hall of 1,800-square meters. The exhibition line reaches 378 meters. The Museum is Capable of holding middle and small size art, calligraphy, and photography exhibitions. The new museum, now under the leadership of Inner Mongolia Art and Literary Federation, has 15 regular staff members. Within the museum are Exhibition Department, Research Department, Office, Financial Department and other departments.

From 1997 to the first half year of 2006, the museum has held more than 300 exhibitions, including those of foreign countries such as Mongolia, Denmark, Japan, Sweden and Korea, and the nationwide exhibitions such as The 9th National Print Art Exhibition, the Chinese painting exhibition entitled Glorious West , National Chinese Painting Exhibition, and the 4th Watercolor Painting Exhibition. It has a collection of about 500 artistic and calligraphic works since 1997 when it was rebuilt.

By 2006, it is 48 years since Inner Mongolia Art Museum came into existence. With the historical and cultural development of Inner Mongolia, the Museum plays an indispensable role in promoting the artistic, calligraphic and photographic undertakings in Inner Mongolia as well as in carrying forward the culture of the Region.
