何香凝美术馆是中国第一个以个人名字命名的国家级美术馆，于1997年创建，坐落在深圳华侨城。它以收藏、陈列和研究何香凝的艺术为主体，同时致力于发展当代艺术，并关注海外华人艺术和女性艺术的研究与展示。馆长为任克雷先生。

    美术馆的建筑面积5,000余平方米，共三层，设有主展厅600平方米，上下两层共有3个展室，用以陈列何香凝艺术；副展厅1,200平方米，上下两层共7个展室。副展厅是多功能展厅，为举办其它艺术展览活动提供了有效的空间。另设有咨询厅、贵宾厅、多功能报告厅、藏品库、画室、美术培训中心、裱画间，以及咖啡厅、艺术商品部等配套设施。馆内配备了先进的照明、消防、环境控制、监控防盗系统等自动化控制系统，达到国内美术馆的一流水平。

    2005年，美术馆成立了OCT当代艺术中心，它是中国目前唯一的一所隶属于国家级美术馆的非营利当代艺术专业机构。其核心任务是整合海内外当代艺术资源，推动中国当代艺术的发展和国际间的艺术文化交流。它的展览活动以当代视觉艺术为主体，辐射实验表演、音乐、影视、多媒体等多个领域。

    当代艺术中心室内面积为3,000余平方米，由办公、国际艺术家工作室、展厅和作品仓库等功能区构成，另设有艺术书店和咖啡厅等休闲服务设施。中心主展厅面积1,200平米，国际艺术家工作室面积600平米，副展厅面积600平米。中心不仅拥有一流的计算机设备和一系列的相关软件支持，还拥有包括大画幅胶片相机、专业数码相机和数码摄像机、投影仪、DVD播放器等各种媒体设备，为当代艺术的创作与展示提供了良好的硬件支持。

    美术馆的重要学术展览由以下几大部分构成：

    其一是常设性国际大型展事，如《深圳国际当代雕塑展》，自1998年起，迄今已成功举办五届，是国内当代雕塑艺术领域最具代表性和国际影响的展事之一。其二是当代艺术家的群展和个展：美术馆每年举办多个有代表性的当代艺术家群展和个展，已成为中国当代艺术家向往举办展览的场馆。其三是国际性学术展览。

    美术馆采用外聘策划人机制。由海内外从事中国当代艺术活动的资深批评家、策划人、艺术家和美术馆专业人员构成的艺术指导委员会，对何香凝美术馆和OCT当代艺术中心的专业学术工作进行指导和提供咨询。

He Xiangning Art Museum

He Xiangning Art Museum, founded in 1997 and located in Overseas Chinese Town (OCT) of Shenzhen City, is the first national museum that is named after an individual.

The Museum is mainly engaged in collecting, displaying and researching He Xiangning's works of painting and calligraphy. Meanwhile, the Museum is also devoted to the development of the contemporary art, and pays close attention to the research and display of overseas Chinese art and female art. Mr. Ren Kelei is the director of the museum.

The Museum has a floor space of over 5,000 square meters. The three-storied building includes a main exhibition hall, which covers 600 square meters and consists of 3 exhibition rooms at the upper and lower two storeys for displaying He Xiangning's works; and a wing exhibition hall, which covers 1,200 square meters and consists of 7 exhibition rooms at the upper and lower two storeys. The wing exhibition hall serves as a multifunctional exhibition hall and provides spaces for holding other art exhibition activities. Besides, there are auxiliary facilities, such as consultation room, VIP room, multifunctional lecture hall, collection storage, studio, fine arts training centre, mounting workshop, cafe shop and store, etc.. The Museum is equipped with the advanced internal lighting system, fire-fighting system, environmental control system, burglar-proof monitoring system and other automation control systems, making it a first-class museum in China.

In 2005, OCT Contemporary Art Terminal was set up in the Museum, and it is the only non-profit professional institution of contemporary art subordinated to a national museum in China today. Its key pursuit is to integrate contemporary art resource both at home and abroad, and promote the development of Chinese contemporary art as well as international art and culture exchange. Its exhibition activities highlight contemporary visual art, and also touch upon many other fields such as experimental show, music, movie and TV, and multimedia, etc.

The Contemporary Art Terminal, with an indoor area of over 3,000 square meters, consists of such functional areas as office area, international artist studio, exhibition hall and works storage, etc. Besides, some leisure service facilities, such as art bookstore and cafe, etc. are also available in the Terminal. The Terminal's main exhibition hall covers 1,200 square meters, the international artists studio covers 600 square meters and the wing exhibition hall covers 600 square meters respectively. TheTerminal is equipped with first-class computers and a series of relevant software support, also with various media equipment including large-sized film camera, professional digital camera and digital video camera, projector and DVD player, providing good hardware support for the creation and display of contemporary art.

The significant academic exhibition of the Museum mainly consists of the following three parts:

Firstly, permanent large-scale international exhibitions, such as Shenzhen International Contemporary Sculpture Exhibition , which has successfully come to its 5th session since 1998, and is one of the most representative and internationally influential exhibitions in the field of contemporary sculpture art in China. Secondly, group exhibition and solo exhibition of contemporary artists: many representative group exhibitions and solo exhibitions of contemporary artists are held in the Museum each year, which has become the exhibition centre where Chinese contemporary artists look forward to holding their exhibitions. Thirdly, international academic exhibitions.

The Museum adopts the mechanism of employing curators from outside of the museum. The Art Steering Committee consisting of distinguished critics, curators, artists and museum professionals engaged in Chinese contemporary art activities both at home and abroad conducts guidance and counseling for the professional academic work of He Xiangning Art Museum and OCT Contemporary Art Terminal.
