越南美术馆成立于1966年，是越南文化信息部直接管辖的五个国家级博物馆之一。

    1962年，越南国家工艺美术学院成立，该学院的成立为美术馆的建立提供了必要的人力和物力基础。在画家Nguyen DoCung的推动下，国家工艺美术学院的开拓者们开始致力于学院向美术馆的转型，包括把学院的建筑外形由原来的欧式风格改造成具有越南本土特色的建筑，并使其具备了美术馆的功能。正是在这样的背景下，经过四年的筹备工作，1966年6月26日，越南美术馆正式向公众开放。现有员工86人。

    越南美术馆完好地保存了从史前到早期历史一直到现代的越南造型艺术品。该馆的藏品陈列体系主要包含以下6个专题:史前和早期历史阶段的越南艺术品；十一世纪到十九世纪的越南艺术品；二十世纪到二十一世纪的绘画和雕塑；应用装饰艺术；越南民间艺术；十一世纪到二十一世纪的越南陶瓷制品。

    越南美术馆从18，000多件藏品中挑选了2,018件作为馆内的固定陈列，并根据年代顺序和专题（即艺术媒介和流派）进行编排，从而让观众能直观地感受到颇具人文特质和民族风情的越南工艺品，其中最引人注目的是20世纪杰出的越南绘画和雕塑作品。

    进入21世纪以来，越南美术馆举办了许多国内外重要的展览，包括：2006年8月与日本协会合办的越南和纸艺术展、2006年菲律宾驻河内使馆与菲律宾画家M·巴德莫（M.Baldemor）合办的“越南—文化之旅”、2005年—2006年在日本举行的“越南近代绘画50年”展、2006年在意大利罗马举办的越南当代艺术展、越南美术馆与德累斯顿美术大学在德国合办的美术交流和专家培训项目，以及2005年与韩国当代设计实验协会（KECD）联合举办的遗产设计研讨会和海报艺术展等重要活动与展览。

    目前，越南美术馆是越南公众接受美术教育的重要机构之一，2005年的参观人数达20万余人。

Vietnam Fine Arts Museum

Vietnam Fine Arts Museum was founded in 1966 which is one of five national museums under the direct control of the Ministry of Culture and Information.

In 1962, the Institute of Fine Arts Fine Handicrafts was founded. It had concentrated forces, minds to build up the Museum in two faces: preparing exhibition content and reconstructing the old French building into a national Fine Arts Museum. The staff of Institute of Fine Arts Fine Handicrafts headed by the late painter Nguyen Do Cung together with a number of collaborators had worked seriously, consciously to renovate the building from the European style to Vietnamese architecture and suitably function as a Fine Arts Museum. After 4 years, the preparative works were completed and in 26 June 1966, Vietnam Fine Arts Museum was officially inaugurated to serve the public. Currently, the staff number of the museum is 86.

Vietnam Fine Arts Museum well conserved a lot of Vietnamese plastic arts from Prehistoric and Early History periods up till now is duly preserved and promoted. The display system of the Museum includes 6 special subjects:

1.Vietnam Fine Arts in the Prehistoric and Early History periods;
2.Vietnam Fine Arts from the 11th century to the 14th century
3.Paintings and sculptures from the 20th century to the 21st century;
4.Applied decorative arts;
5.Vietnam's Folk Arts;
6.Vietnamese ceramics from the 11th century to the 21st century;

With 2018 exhibits and artworks out of more than 18,000 items, the Museum's display system is presented chronologically and according to special subjects (i.e. the artistic media and genres) to provide viewers with a brief survey of the process and development of Vietnam Fine Arts very rich in humanitarian character and imbued with national identity. Of major interest is a collection of the outstanding works of the most famous artists, representative of Vietnamese painting and sculpture in the 20th century.

Since entering into the 21th century, The Vietnam Fine Arts Museum hosted a series of academic exhibition in and out of Vietnam, such as:

The Art of Washi Exhibition in Vietnam in coopration with Japanese Association (being held in Aug. 2006); Exhibition of the Philippine artist M. Baldemor Vietnam a cultural experience in cooperation with the Embassy to the Philippine to Hanoi(2006);Exhibition 50 years of Vietnam Modern Paintings 1925-1975 in Japan (2005-2006);Exhibition of The world of Vietnam Lacquer Paintings in Japan (2006); Exhibition of Vietnam Contemporary Art in Rome, Italy (2006);Cooperation project on fine arts conservation and training expert between the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum Dresden Fine Arts University Germany;Project of conservating lacquer painting with the financial grant of the US Ambassador's Fund for Cultural Preservation (2005); Design Seminat and Poster Exhibition on Heritages held by the Korean Society for Experimentation in Contempopary Design (KECD) and Vietnam Fine Arts Museum (2005).

In the recent year, there are thousands of people visiting the museum. For example, the number of audience in 2005 reached 214,000. Nowadays, the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum Number has become one of the most important institutions who are serving for the Vietnam public art education.
