1955年出生。1988年毕业于中央美术学院美术史系，获硕士学位，此后历任中央美术学院研究部主任、院长助理、副院长，教授。2005年12月任中国美术馆馆长，是中国美术家协会理论委员会副主任。

    主要从事20世纪中国美术研究和当代艺术批评与展览策划，有敏锐的艺术洞察力与全面的文化学识，撰著有大量20 世纪中国艺术研究和当代艺术评论文章，在中央美术学院人文学院艺术管理系讲授“艺术博物馆学”等课程。他积极参与中国当代艺术活动与国际艺术交流，多次参加国内外学术研讨会，参与组织了国内国际多种视觉艺术、建筑与公共艺术等大型文化活动。

    近年策划的展览有《生活在此时》（德国柏林）、《都市营造：20 02上海双年展》（上海）、第25届圣保罗双年展中国馆、第50届、第51届威尼斯双年展中国馆，《“中国怎么样？”：中国当代艺术展》（巴黎蓬皮杜中心）、《东方既白：20世纪中国绘画展》（巴黎）、《中国当代雕塑展》（巴黎、华盛顿）、《第二现实：中国当代摄影展》（布鲁塞尔）、第10届威尼斯建筑双年展中国馆等重要展览。2005年获美国麦卡班基金会奖，并被《艺术与投资》杂志评为“影响世界艺术的50名人”之一。

Director, National Art Museum of China. Born in 1955, Fan Di'an received his Master Degree in 1988 in art history department, Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, which is the premier art institution in China. After that he successively held the posts of Director of Research Institute, President Assistant, Vice-President and Professor of Central Academy of Fine Arts. From December 2005 to present, he is the director of National Art Museum of China, and the vice-director of Theory Committee, China Artists Association.

Specialized in the research of Chinese art in the 20th century, contemporary art criticism and curatorial practice, he is knowledgeable and has acute insight on art. Moreover, he has written a great number of articles focusing on the research of 20th century Chinese art and the criticism of contemporary art. In addition, he is a professor teaching Art Museum Study in art administration department of Central Academy of Fine Arts. He has actively participated in a variety of Chinese contemporary art activities, international art exchanges and academic seminars in and out of China. He also has curated and organized many
large-scale activities concerning visual art, architecture and public art.

The important exhibitions curated by Mr. Fan Di’an in recent years include: Living in Time, Belin, Germany; Urban Creation: 2002 Shanghai Biennale, Shanghai; China Pavilion at the 25th Sao Paolo Biennial, China Pavilion at The 50th and The 51st Venice Biennale, Alors, La Chine, Centre Pompidou, Paris; Chinese Painting of 20th Century, Paris; Contemporary Sculpture from China, Paris and Washington; The Second Reality: The Contemporary Chinese Photography, Brussels; China Pavilion at The 10th International Architecture Exhibition of Venice Biennale. In 2005,He got Louise T. Blouin Foundation Award and was named as one of the “Fifty People Influenced The World Art ” by the magazine“Art and Auction”.
