He especially committed to carrying forward cultural context of Xin’an School, learned widely from other masters’ strong points, and formed his own distinctive language and style. Mr. Xue Yongnian spoke highly of him: “Mr. Wang Younong re-appeals to artistic tradition of Xin’an School, and blazes the path by taking freehand brushwork, creating artistic connotation, placing emphasis on copying and attaching importance to ink painting”. With great accomplishments, he was a contemporary scholarly painter with both professional excellence and moral integrity”. In February 2015, Mr. Wang Younong unfortunately died of illness in Shenzhen.
Shenzhen is a city of immigrants. Culture and art of Shenzhen also remarkably demonstrate the characteristics of immigrant city like all-inclusive sea. Mr. Chen Xiangbo (Director of Shenzhen Guan Shanyue Art Museum) commented that Mr. Wang Younong was a high achiever in the field of Chinese painting, who was exactly a resident of Shenzhen Special Economic Zone for many years. In his later years, he resided with his children in Shenzhen, and he was absorbed in the research and creation of Chinese painting. He committed to carrying forward cultural context of Xin’an School, learned widely from other masters’ strong points, and formed his own distinctive language and style. He was not only a tradition watchman honoring teachers and esteeming truth, but also a Chinese painter with proficiency in poetry, painting and calligraphy and superb skills in painting characters, landscapes, flows and birds.
Mr. Wang Younong’s exploration fruits in the field of new literati painting and especially inheritance and innovation artworks in Xin’an School Style had been never systematically exhibited or published. Some of his artworks were hastily inscribed by him before the death. And some artworks have not yet been completed. After his family members sort up these artworks, it can be found that this veteran artist endured great hardships in pioneer work with great concentration on the traditional ink painting art for decades, which is a striking case for studies on contemporary inheritance of traditional art.
