In 1960, Mr. Fu Baoshi led a team of landscape painters of Jiangsu Province to travel 11,500km to depict the new features of mountains and rivers of the motherland. It opened up a new realm in the creation of Chinese paintings and established the landmark status of the New Jinling Painting School in the Chinese painting circles. In 2016, National Art Museum of China, Publicity Department of Jiangsu Provincial Committee of CPC, Jiangsu Provincial Federation of Literary and Art Circles and Jiangsu Cultural Investment & Management Group organized a tour for painters of Jiangsu Province to carry forward the spirit of the New JinlingPainting School, in the theme that “Paintings Should Follow the Era”. The team of 19 painters, consultants and specially invited painters from Jiangsu Province, selected by experts with Chinese Artists Association, set out on September 6, 2016, to travel 19,000km in eight provinces and municipalities in 25 days, painting more than 1,000 sketches from life. The exhibition is separated into two parts. Part one puts on display masterpieces of Fu Baoshi and other representative painters of the New Jingling Painting School. Part two demonstrates the elaborate works of 29 contemporary painters of Jiangsu, as well as documents, pictures and videos of the tours of the New Jingling Painting School artists painting in the field in 1960 and 2016, respectively.
