JaoTsung-i, a centenarian, is still active in painting the great beauty of the motherland. The exhibition in Beijing will be held following the tour of France andJao will donate some wonderful works to the country.
JaoTsung-i, also known as Bo Lian and Gu An by courtesy name, and Xuan Tang by literary name, was born in Chaozhou in 1917. He has been engaged in academic research and teaching for more than 70 years. Learned in both the ancient and modern, Chinese and western, he is an internationally renowned sinologist and leading scholar, comparable with Qian Zhongshu and Ji Xianlin in the north of the country.
JaoTsung-i is also a great calligrapher and painter making a name in the art circles. He started to learn calligraphy and painting since childhood, and has made unremitting explorations in the fields, and created his own style up to the age of 100 years old. The exhibition, taking lotus as the theme, presents Jao’s charming calligraphy in various styles, and his spectacular ink paintings of lotus. It reflects his profound cultural realm and the spiritual portraiture developed in meditation, manifests his great academic and artistic accomplishments, and his incessant creativity tallied with the vigorous development of the times.
