Power of Black and White-Kathe Kollwitz Classic Works Exhibition

Kathe Kollwitz(1867-1945)is the most distinguished and influential artist of German in the 20th century. Her works involve many subjects such as death, war, motherhood as well as moments of miraculous brightness in life, which was usually ignored by the critics. The exhibition particularly selected Kollwitz’s works that had attracted extensive attention in China in the 1930s. The exhibits, which cover sculpture, woodcut series, self-portrait series, posters and some others, and probe into such subjects as existing circumstances, eternal mother and children, will help the public achieve an overall perception to Kollwitz and get to know how she does creation all her life based on “human”. In addition, Kollwitz’s personal letters and manuscripts are also as supplement of the show to enhance and reappear scenario on universality and contemporariness of life experience in her works. The exhibits of this show come from several famous museums of German and private collection.
