He was the first young artist to send works to Lu Xun for advice. His work "Capture" and "Mother and Son" were thought highly of by Lu Xun. He went to Yan'an in 1938 to hold the post of Dean of a branch of Lu Xun University of Literature and Arts in Taihang Mountain area. He worked in Lu Xun University of Literature and Arts and Guangdong Fine Arts Academy successively in the 1950s and 1960s.
Similar to his other works, black-white contrast, rough and powerful cutting style was applied in this work. He once said: "I am a prolific writer, and I don't make draft. I cut on the wood directly..."
