Following a sculpture exhibition about Tai Chi held in Beijing four years ago, Ju Ming is presenting another exhibition entitled “the living world” in china’s capital at Hall 3, 5, 7 and 9 until August 13. The exhibition comprises all the series of masterpieces concerning the living world since the 1980s, including the recent works called “the imprisonment”.
The exhibition comprises a total of 150 works of the Living World series. Ju Ming compares his whole art life to the growth of a tree, with the Nativist series as the roots the Taichi series as the branches and the Living World series as the fruit.
The exhibition is designed to reveal his masterpieces in four different themes, including “the world ? various masks”, “the materials? the dialogue”, “the new gesture? the life” and “the imprisonment”. The exhibition is expected to provide but also an overview of the origin of the world but also a complete reflection of the process of the Living World series.
About the exhibition
The Ju Ming Museum and the National Art Museum of China worked together to host the Taichi Sculpture Exhibition at Hall 1 and 8 at the National Art Museum of China in 2006. The show was a great success then. Since the cooperation in 2006, Ju Ming presents the Living World series in China’s capital in a bid to promote the sculpture art and establish a long-term exchange between the two museums.
The exhibition comprises the masterpieces of the Living World series over the past three decades since the 1980s and the recent works named “the imprisonment” with a wide range of materials from the wood and the stone to the ceramics and the stainless steel. The exhibits cover a great variety of themes and introduce the complete process of the Living World series. The exhibition is hoped to help the Chinese audience appreciate the diversified creation and the artistic world of vigor and vitality. The show is of great importance in the terms of the bilateral exchange of the two museums.
About Ju Ming
Born in Taiwan in 1938, Ju Ming was apprenticed to Lee Chi-Chuan about the sculpture and the drawing of the temples at the age of 15 and learned from Yang Yu-Yu, a well-known sculptor at 30. he combined the traditional woodcarving with the modern sculpture and gradually developed his unique style. He held his first solo exhibition at the National Museum of History in Taipei, showing a number of woodcarving on the theme of the nature. The exhibition was highly successful. Afterwards, Ju Ming established his position in the sculpture circle with the Taichi series. And the Living World series revealing various aspects of the world, is an attempt to explore the connotations of different themes through such materials as the ceramics, the sponge, the bronze and the stainless steel. The master continues to expand his series until now. He has become a highly recognized sculptor though various international exhibitions since his first solo overseas exhibition held in Japan in 1977. The artist founded the Ju Ming Museum close to Taipei in 1999, which is regard as his largest works so far. His works boast the profound oriental spirit and the combination between the tradition and the modern art, and also reveal his innovation and creation in the field of the art.
