The Beihai watercolor painting derives from the local artistic form of the city of Beihai and has become a brand of the artistic creation in the city and even Guangxi province. It has exerted much influence across the country as a new force in the Chinese artistic circle. The style of the Beihai watercolor painting formed in the 1990s. Over the past ten years, more than twenty creative artists have emerged, including Cai Daodong, Xiao Changheng, Zhang Guoquan, Cai Qunhui, Wu Mingzhu, Zhang Hong, Wu Zhigang, Huang Xiaoqi, Zhang Guonan, Bao Jianqun and Zhang Bin. Their masterpieces vividly reflect the aesthetic features of the “oceanic culture” of the North Bay from different perspectives and unique artistic languages.
