Since its initial stage in the 1970s, modern ceramics in Mainland China has been included in the framework of China’s contemporary art as an independent identity from the traditional space in the 1990s. Promoted by the active atmosphere of the contemporary art and the influence of the artistic thoughts, the art of the ceramics, as a cultural topic of the contemporary revolution, has established a new structure from different perspectives. Given the thought to the mankind, the society, the history and the culture, the art, existing universally in current creation, highlights the personality and representation more than ever before. Under relatively loose circumstances, contemporary ceramic artists are free to express internal impulse and the conflict between the contemporary emotion and the traditional pattern is inevitable.
The theme of “Thoughts of culture ·Speech of objects” is expected to review the situation of the contemporary ceramics in Mainland China from a phenomenological perspective and its necessary relations between the traditional Chinese culture and the current social life. The section of “Thoughts of culture” elaborates the thought on the traditional culture and the concerns on the current life, and the part of “Speech of objects” displays various possibilities of the material exhibition. The ceramic exhibitions reflect the changeable cultural orientation and thought. The exhibition is a comprehensive demonstration of the contemporary ceramics in Mainland China. The show comprises a number of outstanding works by the mid-aged and young ceramics artists, and reflects robust achievements of the ceramic art.
