Near the close of the Chinese Spring Festival in 2009, the National Art Museum of China held an exhibition on children’s costume and swaddling clothes entitled The Mother’s Love through Embroidery from Jan, 22 at Japan-China Friendship Center, the foreign partnership for the show.
Boasting a splendid long history, the Chinese embroidery culture is widely used in the costume art especially in the southwestern ethnic regions. With the theme of the mother’s love, the show comprises a total of 78 children’s costumes out of more than 3,000 items collected by the National Art Museum of China. The exhibits cover 7 categories, namely, coat, suit, shoe, cap, pinafore, vest and swaddling clothes. Besides the infinite mother’s love, each object embodies the unique aesthetic appeals for the life esteem of a nation. The excellent works are characterized by vivid forms, bright colors and exquisite craftsmanship. The Japanese people have the opportunity to appreciate the diverse, colorful embroidery and the warm mother’s love of the southwestern ethnic regions.
