Sponsored by the National Art Museum of China and Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig Wien (MUMOK), an exhibition entitled Facing the reality: Chinese Contemporary Art as an artistic exchange event presented the realistic outlook of the contemporary Chinese art.
The show held in Vienna covered almost all the four floors of MUMOK and made a great success. The hall on the first floor comprises the masterpieces and the recent works by Fang Lijun, Zhang Xiaogang and Yue Minjun. On the second floor are mainly the large devices with strong visual impacts and the large-sized works on shelves. The third floor showcases some photographic and video works including recent works by Miao Xiaochun, device photographic works by Song Tao, a young artist. The rest displays the works by young artists, including the groups of “they” and “UNMASK”, Li Hui, Chen Ke, Xu Zhen, Zeng Hao and Ji Dachun.
The show on the realism is of great academic significance to seriously discuss the Chinese realistic questions and the internal problems of the Chinese contemporary art. It also witnessed the first exchange via the contemporary art on the official level between the two countries. It is also an important international exchange project planned by the National Art Museum of China in 2007.
