Master of art Wu Guanzhong ended his artistic life on June 25th, which caused the art world and the whole society to shock. National Art Museum of China made rapid response at the first time and will hold the exhibition of Worthy Painting—Wu Guanzhong Special Exhibition for Commemoration from July 7th to August 2nd in National Art Museum of China and try hard to let the public enter Wu Guanzhong’s artistic and spiritual world through this exhibition.

National Art Museum of China has special feelings toward Mr. Wu Guanzhong. Some of Wu Guanzhong’s important exhibitions were held in National Art Museum of China. For example, in 1979, Painting Exhibition of Wu Guanzhong was held in National Art Museum of China. In the early stage of reform and opening-up, this was an exhibition which started new artistic trend of a generation; in 1999, Painting Exhibition of Wu Guanzhong was held in National Art Museum of China. Wu Guanzhong donated 10 pieces of his paintings to the country; in 2009, in the exhibition of Cultivation and Dedication —— Donated Works of Wu Guanzhong, he donated 36 pieces of his paintings free again to the country. This special exhibition for commemoration will exhibit 62 pieces of Mr. Wu Guanzhong’s paintings collected by National Art Museum of China.

This exhibition will not only show Mr. Wu Guanzhong’s oil and ink paintings, watercolor paintings in the collection, but also display large amount of documents and materials about Wu Guanzhong to let the public commemorate Wu Guanzhong’s artistic life from every aspect and comprehensively. We specially set Wu Guanzhong art literature reading area, Wu Guanzhong painting collection and anthology exhibition area, hoping that this kind of comprehensive exhibition which includes theory achievement, creation achievement and literary attainments can restore a complete image of Wu Guanzhong to greatest extent and highlight his personality and cultural temperament. This exhibition will also show Wu Guanzhong’s “oil paintings’ nationalization” and “ink paintings’ modernization” advanced side by side and combined Chinese and Western style in the way of the comparison of two halls.

Meanwhile, National Art Museum of China will also invite thousands of university students to visit the exhibition, and hold 3 Wu Guanzhong art public lectures, in order to let more young scholars to experience the innovation value from Wu Guanzhong’s artistic creation and cultivate young scholars to respect great artists and artistic creation. To exhibit the use of artistic styles and material languages of many kinds is very beneficial for the university students to understand the exquisite drawing skills of Wu Guanzhong’s art.
