In order to commemorate the first anniversary of the Wenchuan earthquake, the National Art Museum of China will host an exhibition entitled “Crossing: Dialogues for Emergency Architecture”, which will be held from May 12 through May 24 in Beijing. This exhibition is organized by the United Nations Development Programmer, the Bureau of Arts at Chinese Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China and the National Art Museum of China, and supported by the School of Architecture at the Central Academy of Fine Arts. This exhibition will open on May 12th of 2009, the anniversary day of the earthquake, in order to highlight its significance. After recovery from deep sorrow of Wenchuan earthquake, this exhibition reviews disasters in the past and prepares for those to come, and discusses and researches post-disaster emergency architecture world wide. The exhibition invited 17 domestic and internationally renounced architectural team to design feasible, efficient, safe, beautiful and user-friendly emergency shelters for the victims of different natural disasters (such as earthquakes and hurricanes) and social disasters (such as epidemic diseases). By inviting international architects from different nations, the exhibition will spark a dialogue between architects across the world, and inspire more professionals to lend their talents to bettering disaster relief research and design. The exhibition will also be accompanied by an international symposium, where experts and scholars at home and abroad will engage in a meaningful discussion on global disaster prevention and relief, environmental protection and reconstruction. The symposium is scheduled on May 13 from 9 am to 4 pm at the 7th floor auditorium of the museum.
